Overview

Peggy Dahl (Zoey Deutch) dreams of breaking free from her native Buffalo and going to study at a prestigious university. The realization that she has no money to pay for her tuition leads Peggy to get involved in a dangerous and difficult business of collecting debts. It is soon revealed that she has real talent, and it is very likely that she has found her real calling in life. Or hasn’t she?

The main charm of Buffaloed is Zoey Deutch herself. Although she is still trying too hard, this helps make everything that happens in the movie become more comedic than tragic. And there will be a lot of drama. But cheerful Peg finds a way out of any hole into which she dragged herself.

The main character evokes mixed feelings. Her dedication can be envied. She accelerates quickly, but she doesn't really see where she is jumping. But on the other hand, she can be a leader and inspire people, which is already worth something. Peg is not a bad person, she just needs to think more sometimes.

This is an atypical film about the American Dream. Peg is hungry for wealth and is striving with all his might to get it, only there is no money for the necessary education. Peg has no talent for inventing, she is not a singer, not an artist. She is just well versed in human psychology and is looking for the shortest way to a pile of dollars.

Buffaloed is not perfect at all, it lacks a logical script, but it is worth watching it because Zoey is a great comedian, and today there are not many good young actresses who can be funny.

Irene wrote:

The film is, I would say, very uneven: it starts as a black comedy and then becomes frivolous and almost sentimental. The film could have a much better social commentary on the stresses of paying for college and what people can go to get paid for it.

Zoe wrote:

the film is still overly stylized. At certain times, characters talk to the camera, funny flashbacks are portrayed, or the movie "stops" to explain the financial concept. While this style makes the film exciting and enjoyable, it also feels a little cheesy at times.

Pearson wrote:

the film aroused mixed feelings in me; its most significant disadvantage is the incomplete plot. But if you don't be picky and forgive, the idea is taken from The Wolf of Wall Street (2013). I will recommend watching.
