For brief moments each year this hauntingly beautiful landscape opens up, beckoning scientists and explorers from around the world to investigate its frozen secrets. 'Journey into the White Desert' takes us on a mesmerizing visual adventure into this mysterious continent, introducing us to a team of South African scientists, researchers and explorers who have braved the inhospitable continent in the quest to learn its secrets. The film explores South Africa's role in the greatest wilderness on earth and showcases some of the groundbreaking research that could make the difference to our survival on this planet.

At the end of the 19th century, German archaeologist Professor Bohmann is searching for the remains of the legendary island Atlantis. But he is not the only one who is trailing the myth. His adversary, the British scientist Sir Grey claims to have already found Atlantis. In different masks and guises, he sets cunning traps to keep off his adversary from finding Atlantis.

Unimaginably steep icy lines rise from the ocean, towering seracs, pods of orcas and colonies of penguins, but at the bottom of the world, rescue is not an option. For Xavier and Victor, it's a giant playground filled with first descents; for Mila, it's an intimidating initiation into big-mountain free riding. The film captures their intimate inner dialogue through personal diaries, showcasing Mila's journey as she confronts her fears and embraces the challenge.
