Love and money, money, money make the world go round, but there’s more of the former on display in this winning exercise in DIY filmmaking from writer-director David Ray (Grand Unified Theory) and his puckish band of merry pranksters. This is a totally improvised jape, made in Vancouver “for less than the cost of a used Honda.” Andrew McNee plays Andrew, a musician whose lost his way — not to mention his friend Scott, who’s missing. Seeking him out involves strange encounters with friends and strangers, none of whom seems to know what’s going on (probably because there wasn’t a script). But go with it! There’s gold in them thar hills, and despite or because of its eccentric genesis, this completely unexpected movie actually goes somewhere…

A Counter Fire

A short documentary that brings light to the experiences of those who live with hidden disabilities. Through eight heartfelt interviews, participants share their struggles, strengths, and realities of their everyday lives.

Famous drag queen Holly and her scheming sister Beryl (both played by Doug Lucas) battle over the wishes of their recently deceased grandmother, who wants to be buried with her canine companion, Dingo. Defying all health codes and decorum, Holly and her long-suffering manservant hatch a plan to fulfil her grandmother's wishes, while Beryl plots a much darker fate for her deluded sister.

A 26-year-old taxi driver drives towards the Hjälstaviken nature reserve and never comes home. A week later, the police make a macabre discovery: he is found dead, hanging from a tree. Suspicions are directed at five young people who were in the area. A 15-year-old girl had previously reported him for rape. Leif GW Persson examines the case and the legal proceedings.

The morning calm is broken in Skultuna and Rönnby in Västerås when a VMA is sent out and residents are asked to stay indoors. The police are hunting a 38-year-old suspect after two brutal violent crimes. A child calls 112 and says that his mother is being attacked. Shortly afterwards, a woman is found dead in her home.
