The Specials is a drama film directed by famous Olivier Nakache & Éric Toledano, creators of 1 + 1 (Intouchables). For their new film, the directors chose a real-life basis, abandoning the obvious comedic elements. Olivier Nakache and Éric Toledano have been observing non-governmental organizations that care for people with autism. Then directors shot the film about two activists dedicated to an important cause.
In the center of the plot, Bruno (Vincent Cassel) is the founder of an organization dedicated to the custody of children with autism spectrum disorders. He devotes all his time to it, trying to help those who need a special approach. In a similar organization, his friend Malik (Reda Kateb) works, recruiting problem teenagers to work, who become guardians and help children with autism spectrum disorders adapt to the environment. Due to the abundance of worries, every day is not easy for Bruno and Malik. One day they face a ministry review. An inspection comes to Bruno, which can close his institution, which does not have professional workers.
Thanks to the delicate script and the excellent cast, the film gradually introduces the hero of Vincent Cassel, alternately showing those to whom he is attached. His character is very cheerful and at the same time indifferent to his personal life, which does not cause him much bitterness.
The creators do not use tricks that cause laughter, but they enjoy a certain irony, Cassel's hero is a Jew, and his best friend is Muslim.
The film Specials starts a little alarmingly, which can scare you with its seriousness, but the film does not manipulate the drama; it only immerses you in a certain situation.
