John Constable, a writer, falls prey to the designs of scheming widow Margaret Alloway to the dismay of his young wife Kitty. Feigning interest in John's work, the widow offers to collaborate on his new book, Women's Struggles , but when she convinces him to dine with her on Kitty's birthday, the neglected wife decides to retaliate. After attending the opera with handsome bachelor Harry Travers, Kitty accepts an invitation to share supper in his rooms, leaving a note for her husband. Aware of Harry's questionable reputation with women, John panics, but by the time he arrives at Harry's apartment, Kitty has disappeared. Following a series of incidents in which the widow, her suitor Teddy Sylvester, Travers, and the Constables are discovered in compromising situations that actually are innocent, John realizes that he far prefers Kitty to the widow and again becomes a loving husband.

John Stoval, a guard in a New York subway, thinks that Philip Hurd, who owns a concession at Coney Island, would make a good husband for his daughter Sophie. Sophie, however, has her sights set on Bill Hedges, the son of a wealthy farmer in upstate New York. Her father arranges for her to marry Hurd in exchange for a 25% interest in the concession, but matters come to a halt when John slips and falls off a subway platform and is injured.

Henry Lamont, a wealthy miner, is mysteriously murdered. Trooper Joe Hammond, in the neighborhood, hears the shot and comes to the aid of Jeanne Lamont, who is at loss to explain the fatal attack on her father. The girl goes to live with her uncle, who has already been visited by a bogus trooper, who imparts the information that one of the Northwest Police is suspected of being 'the lone wolf,' a desperate criminal. Trooper Hammond, too, seeks 'the wolf.' Developments disclose that the bogus trooper was 'the wolf,' but not until the latter tries to file claim on a gold vein he is detected by the girl.

Just previous to his departure for South Africa and the Boer War, Gordon Frazier, a young officer in the English Army, bids an affectionate farewell to his fiancée, Gladys Mayford. In Africa, engaged in battle, Gordon is rescued from death by a young soldier, with whom he formed a slight acquaintance.

During Nick Austin's imprisonment, his wife passes away. Before she dies, she writes a note to her husband, asking him to put her little girl in the care of an orphan asylum. Mrs. Downes, while bringing some of her dead daughter's clothes to the asylum, takes a fancy to Nina Austin and adopts her.

Irene and Helen are worshipers at the shrine of Frangiapani, the tenor of the hour. When he sings at a concert, they meet in Irene's room, take the printed program of the concert, and one of them plays the accompaniment of the song he is actually singing. Dave Collins is a young man who is bequeathed a ranch on the condition that he marry the late owner's granddaughter Lucille. But when he arrives at the ranch with young sidekick Spuds in tow, Dave finds that a distant relative of Lucille's, Ray Foster, has taken his place. Foster hires tough Bart Haywood to kill his rival, and soon our hero is hogtied to a handcar in the path of an approaching train.
