Overview

Chad Buckley is a horror aficionado, and he's lonely. Chad spends his days at his struggling genre video store arguing with his only regular customer, Sam. When an unsuspecting applicant shows up, Chad begins to teach him about the rules of horror and his video store at large, much to the chagrin of Sam. During Chad's on-boarding process, we weave in and out of different hilarious horror shorts, each one geared at a different set of horror tropes. As this new applicant learns the ropes, he begins to suspect Chad of something sinister, but we quickly learn that he may have a secret of his own.

Horror anthology: Check. Loving homage to horror classics: Check. B-movie horror-comedy: Check. Buckets of gore: Check. -----MILD SPOILER------- Extra Credit--Joe Bob Briggs cameo: Check. Extra Extra Credit--You loved "Toxic Avenger:" Check. If you pass that check-list and are intrigued, you may enjoy "Scare Package." Unfortunately, that formula, even with an iconic horror classic trope/theme to focus on each segment, gets tedious over seven segments. There is a lot to love, and if you've imbibed a bit, then your enjoyment will likely be greater. And that Joe Bob Briggs Cameo! (I was given the original Joe Bob's Drive In book as a gift back in 1985). The guy rocks and was my favorite part of the movie. My quibbles: * Having the first short before the wrap-around story intro was innovative but confusing. * The over-the-top gore get's repetitive. * It's too long. Drive-in Academy Award for the special effects team who must have been very very busy!
