Calling her friend Marceline “the second part of this legend [of Joris Ivens]”, she pays tribute to her as one who, after losing her “beloved and symbiotic partner, has kept her dynamism and liveliness as a person and a filmmaker”. The cinematic portrait illustrates how Loridan was in fact much more than a shadow at Ivens’s side.

An old ruin serves as the favorite playground for Christine and her friends. It is also the home to a pair of storks that have built their nest there. When the ruin is meant to be demolished, Christine is eager on rescuing the helpless baby storks that are not yet fully fledged.

Peter is unwilling to learn the multiplication tables at school. He would rather work as an acrobat at the circus, just like his friend Susanne. Erfurt is host to a large pioneer meeting. From all over the country, thousands of boys and girls travel to the Saxon city to be part of the happening. The schoolboy Tim, however, misses his train - a catastrophe for both himself and his team, since Tim is a sports ace and desperately needed in the competition. Without further ado, the boy decides to hitchhike to Erfurt. The journey turns out to be full of adventures and it ends with a triumph for Tim and his team.

A new pupil has joined the seventh grade and - as is often the case - is met with scepticism. What is more: Mathias' classmates are angry because he is frequently late, goes home early and, on top of it, performs badly at school. They have to acknowledge, however; that he is very gutsy. This proves especially true when it becomes a question of passing a dangerous test: who can hold out longest in the ice cellar?

Lothar, Olaf, Bob and the other pioneers have the task of looking after the castle above the town. However, they mainly get up to mischief, which is why the town fathers take the job away from them again and even exclude them from the upcoming 800th anniversary celebrations. The boys hold a council on how to recapture the castle. Legend has it that the Hussites from Bohemia once stormed the castle and they, who see themselves as their descendants, want to do the same. Olaf is in favor of the violent way, but Lothar and Bob are not. They convince the others that good work is the better way, repair the castle ramparts and dig everywhere to find the hitherto missing proof of the truth of the legend, the presence of the Hussites. They actually succeed. They are restored to their former rights and are of course allowed to take part in the celebrations.

Martin′s and his girlfriend′s Kathrin′s childhood comes to an abrupt end in 1920, when their Mecklenburg village is drawn into the events surrounding the Kapp putsch. By accident, Martin discovers a charge of weapons that land owner von Bröder had put away for the reactionary forces, and gives them to the workers in the city. When the village starts to organize a strike against the putsch, soldiers arrive at the village to hold down the residents of the village.

Eleven-year-old Kaule lives with his aunt in Hinrichsfelde, a small village located in Mecklenburg. The smart and animated boy constantly comes up with plans that are supposed to help others. Since they usually go awry, however, most of the time his fellow men have a hard time appreciating these plans. Things get even worse when Kaule meets Karola, a girl who is new in the village.
