Predators: Moments of Extraction

Joseph is mentally deviated. He is a prisoner of his own flat and always in permanent war with his own mind.

On a humid summer night in the middle of monsoon season, a drug-addicted woman sits alone in a dark room and injects herself with a syringe. A sudden crash of thunder startles her, and the syringe slips from her hand. As she reaches down to retrieve it, she happens to glance toward the apartment building across the way. There, a figure stands watching.

"We Were Not Made For This World” is a existential sci-fi short film directed by Los Angeles-based filmmaker Colin West McDonald, based on a comic of the same name by cartoonist Paul Hornschemeier that features a rapidly declining robot wandering aimlessly through the desert.

Sewage worker Roy Dreary and an assortment of odd characters meet up with some cute and cuddly extraterrestrials traveling to earth in a giant pie in the sky. Dreary develops an obsession with mashed potatoes, whipped cream and maraschino cherries.

This animation was based on a scene I dreamt, where white smoke was rising from a bed. I was influenced by one of Zhuangzi’s thought, The butterfly dream, and visualized the contrast between dream and reality. While I was creating this piece, I was never aware of whom the man sleeping in the movie was, but somehow, he ended up looking just like my grandfather.
