As a group of Danish children pass into adolescence, gradually the most popular girl becomes an outcast, for trivial reasons that she never understands.

Layla, a British-born Chinese girl, struggles with the dualities and contradictions of two disparate cultural identities. On Chinese New Year, she is pushed to reckon with the subtle racism she experiences from her school friends, as well as the grating prejudices of her older male relatives.

Teacher Amarida (Ichihara Hayato) has been transferred to a new school and is still crazy about school lunches. He gets the shock of his life when school lunches are made more healthy but less flavorful. Amarida’s student rival Kamino (Sato Taishi) has also transferred to the same school and is outraged at the changes to school lunches.

Lena is a bright, disabled girl who, after years spent studying at home, is keen to get back to school. She is assigned to a special class for disabled pupils who have to present themselves before a school commission at the end of the year in order to prove that they merit being moved back into a "normal" class. Her enervated teachers, however, show absolutely no desire to motivate the students and help them improve; on the contrary, they try to quash right from the start any interest Lena shows in more complex study material.
