Raúl is an unemployed cattleman that lives in an isolated house on the fields. The landscape of pastures is being superimposed by huge soy plantations. Devastated by poverty, he joins a gang of other peasants that steals cattle during the darkness of the nights on the pastures.

Raul and Saul work at the same office. Raul, outgoing and good-natured, comes from a broken marriage. Saul is shy, with a critical and bitter disposition, is recovering from a failed suicide attempt. The film, based on Robert Schumann's Pictures from the East, shows in an unusual perspective the work of Nizar Ali Badr, a Syrian sculptor whose unique language of stone sculptures radiates happiness and love in the face of war, destruction, migration, poverty and injustice. Made in 1953, Study in Optical Rhythm is an examination of the visual functions of rhythm. His best known film, it was drawn and painted directly onto the film stock at intervals of 4, 8, 12, 16 and 24 frames to find concurrence with a predetermined musical accompaniment. The film was intended to be screened both with and without music to explore differing audiovisual relationships. Technically Study in Optical Rhythm is thus reminiscent of the animations of Norman McLaren, Len Lye and Oscar Fischinger.
