Easter Island has long been the subject of curiosity and speculation. It is best known for the giant stone statues, known as the Moai, that dot the coastline.

In 2018, Bonnie Sitter, an author based in Exeter, Ontario searches through some of her family photographs. She finds a captivating little black and white image: a group of smiling young women on the running board of a vehicle. When she flips the photo, an intriguing caption reads: “Farmerettes 1946”. This moment sparks a compelling research journey that eventually leads her to co-author an entire book on a forgotten subject.

Exclusively created with period engravings, this animated feature explores the Franco-Prussian War of 1870 and the ensuing Paris Commune revolution in 1871.

Since the defeat, the Nazis, who were the masters of the occupied zone, and the French State, which had been ruling the so-called free zone since Vichy, ordered the Jews to take a census. As the number of infected people grows, Shiga starts to suspect their servant Ishi might have gone to watch a travelling entertainment troupe’s performance which drew a great number of villagers. It is something Ishi is likely to do. But when Shiga questions her, she says that she did not go. However, she makes him have misgivings on a regular basis and he decides to take this opportunity to make her quit. An uproar ensues. Shiga feels that he has become a tyrant and refrains from kicking her out but he loses all reason and faith in humanity amid the pandemic…
