Safia, a 25 year old policewoman, fulfills her dream and joins the prestigious 36 quai des Orfèvres (the headquarters of the criminal investigations department of the Parisian police) after 5 years of service in Clichy-sous-bois. On her very first day, totally out of the blue, she comes across a dangerous gangster who defies her ruthlessly.

After a dreadful incident coupled with an ungovernable paroxysm of violence, a butcher will fall into a downward spiral that will burn to the ground whatever dignity still remained in him.

This is a poetic film set in the times of Lenin's NEP. A ballet dancer steals a brooch and gives it as a present to another dancer. This is a crime of passion. A mysterious black ball is after the heroine. She runs away from it and manages to give the brooch in an exquisite pirouette movement, as shiny as diamond facets. What gives a stone its dazzling luster are its polished facets. But the real gem is love, and it's much harder to get than any diamond in the world.

Bob and Dick both secretly love Dorothy but are too timid to propose. Bob rehearses his proposal to Dorothy, accidentally proposing to the maid, who accepts. Dick arrives, leading to a comical standoff. The maid reveals Bob's "proposal" to the chef, who, jealous, bursts in with a knife. Dorothy, finally arriving, clarifies the misunderstanding, and Bob proposes to her, leaving Dick as best man.

A violent husband dies in a disagreement with his wife. Alone at home, she tries to come to terms with the past. But the man she thought was dead reappears.
