In the process, he makes friends with the hunter "Eule", his future brother-in-law. Joochen finds out that "Eule" has shot the beaver, turns away from him in disgust and reports him to the police. His stubborn behavior does not meet with the approval of the others, because "Owl" did not kill the beaver on purpose. Despite his dislike, Joochen suggests "Owl" as a chaperone for the school trip, but doesn't want to go himself. At the last minute, he decides to go after all and reconcile with "Owl".
The mangos are ripe. Working hard together, Bunny, Monkey, and Black Dog pick up a very big heap of mangos from the mango tree. At first, Bunny and Monkey wanted to take the mangos home in a basket, but there are too many mangos to do that. They decide to take turns instead, each keeping guard for one night to make sure no one steals their mangos. Little White Bunny isn't brave, but he doesn't want to be laughed at by his friends, so he volunteers to keep guard for the first night; but when he notices the mangos being stolen during the night, he's so afraid that he goes hide instead. When his friends come back the next day, he lies, saying the mangos grew legs and run away by themselves.

However, they mainly get up to mischief, which is why the town fathers take the job away from them again and even exclude them from the upcoming 800th anniversary celebrations. The boys hold a council on how to recapture the castle. Legend has it that the Hussites from Bohemia once stormed the castle and they, who see themselves as their descendants, want to do the same. Olaf is in favor of the violent way, but Lothar and Bob are not. They convince the others that good work is the better way, repair the castle ramparts and dig everywhere to find the hitherto missing proof of the truth of the legend, the presence of the Hussites. They actually succeed. They are restored to their former rights and are of course allowed to take part in the celebrations.
