Sean Connery

Biography

Sir Thomas Sean Connery (August 25, 1930 – October 31, 2020) was a Scottish actor and producer who won an Academy Award, two BAFTA Awards (one being a BAFTA Academy Fellowship Award), and three Golden Globes, including the Cecil B. DeMille Award and a Henrietta Award. Connery was the first actor to portray the character James Bond in film, starring in seven Bond films (every film from Dr. No to You Only Live Twice, plus Diamonds Are Forever and Never Say Never Again), between 1962 and 1983. In 1988, Connery won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in The Untouchables. His films also include Marnie (1964), Murder on the Orient Express (1974), The Man Who Would Be King (1975), A Bridge Too Far (1977), Highlander (1986), Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989), The Hunt for Red October (1990), Dragonheart (1996), The Rock (1996), and Finding Forrester (2000). Connery was polled in a 2004 The Sunday Herald as "The Greatest Living Scot" and in a 2011 EuroMillions survey as "Scotland's Greatest Living National Treasure". He was voted by People magazine as both the “Sexiest Man Alive" in 1989 and the "Sexiest Man of the Century” in 1999. He received a lifetime achievement award in the United States with a Kennedy Center Honor in 1999. Connery was knighted in the 2000 New Year Honours for services to film drama. Ray Martin

Biography

Ray Martin is an Australian television presenter, journalist and entertainment personality. He is among the most awarded stars of Australian television, having won five Logie Awards. Martin began working for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation in 1965. In 1969, he became the ABC's New York City correspondent for 10 years covering a wide range of topics. In 1978 he joined the Nine Network to launch 60 Minutes. From 1985-1993 he presented a daily variety show "Midday with Ray Martin" and hosted various specials, interviewing entertainment celebrities including Tom Cruise, Nicole Kidman, Robin Williams, Elton John, Jim Carrey, Michael Douglas, Billy Crystal, Jodie Foster, Michael Crawford, Paul Hogan, Russell Crowe and Madonna. Martin hosted "A Current Affair" from 1994-1998 before returning to 60 Minutes to do special reports. In 2003 he resumed as host of A Current Affair and in December 2005 became the Nine Network's Senior Correspondent, assisting in reporting some major events including the Indonesian tsunami disaster in 2005. He has hosted diverse television events, from the Logie Awards, Commonwealth Games, World Cup Cricket, 1988 Bicentenary Spectacular and Federal and State Election nights to the aftermath of the 11 September terrorist attacks. Martin led the official broadcast of the World Youth Day event in Sydney in July 2008. Martin has also worked as a presenter for the Australian Special Broadcasting Service, In 2016 and 2017, and has hosted various prime time specials for commercial networks and a during Covid presented a satire of lifestyle television with a pandemic theme.

Biography

Henri Michel Couttet (born June 8, 1901 in Chamonix, died October 11, 1953 in Sallanches) was a French professional ice hockey player. He is the older brother of Marcel Couttet and Denis Couttet. His father Alfred Julien Couttet (1872-1918), boilermaker, and two other brothers also played hockey. He is a farmer by profession. Henri Couttet has spent his entire career at the Chamonix Hockey Club. He was champion of France in 1923 and 1927. He was on the French team at the 1920 Olympic Games in Antwerp and at the 1924 Olympic Games in Chamonix.

Charles Balmat

Biography

Charles Balmat, born January 12, 1903 in Chamonix, was a high mountain guide. He is one of the descendants of Jacques Balmat, known as "Balmat du Mont-Blanc", born in 1762 in the Chamonix valley in the village of Pélerins and died in September 1834 in the valley of Sixt, who was a chamois hunter, crystal maker and guide who succeeded in the first ascent of Mont Blanc (4,808 meters) in the company of Doctor Paccard, on August 8, 1786. Charles Balmat will be technical adviser to the Paramount team in Hollywood for the filming of the film "La Neige En Deuil" by Edward Dmytryk, released in 1956. He died on March 21, 1983.

Ladj Ly (born 19 March 1980 in Paris) is a French film director and screenwriter. He won a Jury Prize in Cannes Film Festival for Les Misérables in 2019. The film was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Film. Ly's parents are from Mali and he grew up in Montfermeil, a district of Bosquets. He started making films with his friends Kim Chapiron, Romain Gavras, and JR, in the collective Kourtrajmé. He directed his first films, notably for Oxmo Puccino, and his first documentaries, 365 jours à Clichy-Montfermeil (365 days in Clichy-Montfermeil), filmed after the 2005 French riots; Go Fast Connexion; and 365 jours au Mali (365 days in Mali). In 2011, Ly was given a three-year prison sentence for kidnapping and false imprisonment. In 2012, the sentence was reduced on appeal to two years imprisonment, and one year suspended sentence. Les Misérables is the first non-documentary film he directed. The film received many awards, notably at the Clermont-Ferrand International Short Film Festival and a nomination for the César Award for Best Short Film in 2018. In the same year, he was nominated for the César Award for Best Documentary Film for À voix haute: La Force de la parole with Stéphane de Freitas. He appeared in a number of successful films, including Heart Beat (1980), Cutter's Way (1981), Cat People (1982), Beaches (1988), and Deceived (1991). Other films include The Trip to Bountiful (1985), Big (1988), The Pelican Brief (1993), White Chicks (2004), and his role as the lead protagonist (Kevin McCallister)‘s father, Peter, in Home Alone (1990) and Home Alone 2: Lost in New York (1992).
