Overview

Challenger: The Final Flight is a docuseries telling about the tragic 1986 incident involving NASA's Space Shuttle Challenger.

January 28, 1986, is one of the worst days in the history of astronautics. While a lot has been said about the events of those days in the 34 years since the Challenger shuttle disaster, Netflix's Challenger: The Final Flight miniseries is one of the best space documentaries released in 2020.

There are enough technical details in the series related to the solid fuel booster's malfunction, the problem of burning out the o-ring, and the danger of launching shuttles in cold weather. But the emphasis is not on it but on the political, marketing, and propaganda aspects of the Space Shuttle program, on how dependent NASA became in the 80s of last century from public opinion, on the people who made that fateful decision to launch, and on the astronauts who fell victim to this decision.

Challenger: The Final Flight is a very emotional series. A lot of time is devoted to interviews with the astronauts' wives, relatives, preparations for that launch, the last evening before the launch, and what followed after the Challenger disaster. Challenger: The Final Flight episodes are very touching and challenging.
