The Great Dunhuang is a Chinese television series based on the history of the oasis city of Dunhuang, which lies on the ancient Silk Road. With a Buddhist sutra printed in gold lettering as the plot device, the series tells of the rise and fall, and rebirth of Dunhuang in three parts, each covering a different period in Chinese history - the Song Dynasty, the late Qing Dynasty and the Republican era. The series was first broadcast in mainland China on CCTV from October 31 to November 25 in 2006.

During the reign of the Long Qing Emperor in the Ming Dynasty (the mid-1500s), Lin Shao Chun is the daughter of a once-powerful government official. After being accused of embezzlement and corruption, her father — and the rest of the family — fall from grace. Sacrificing his reincarnation for her life, he waited for her for 60,000 years. Even when his soul disappears, Shang Gu will wait for him forever. Gu Jue Zhuan, previously known as Shang Gu, was first announced in 2014, but was stuck in production hell. Its based on the xianxia novel of the same name by Xing Ling (星零), first published in 2012.

A story about love and fighting for justice follows the quarrelsome pair of Tan Ling Yin and Tang Tian Yuan.
