Saotome Mondonosuke, "Hatamoto" (direct servant of the shogun), a handsome man with a scar on his forehead in the form of a crescent moon, a favorite of the shogun. He is a master of martial arts, who owns the style of Moroha-ryu seigan-kuzushi (fencing), Yoshin-ryu tai-jutsu (the art of fighting without weapons) and even military science, but in the era of Genroku (1688-1704) all these skills are not in demand, and this brings boredom to Mondonosuke. To dispel boredom, this so-called "bored gentleman" walks around the city, and when he hears about some incident, he rushes to the place and defeats evil with his invincible swordsmanship. Mondonosuke has a 17-year-old sister, Kikuji (Yukiko Kashiwagi), and Kikuji's lover, Kirishima Kyoya (Takao Kataoka), becomes his right hand.

Shinsengumi! is a Taiga drama television series produced by Japanese broadcaster NHK. It was a popular drama about the Shinsengumi, a Japanese special police force from the Bakumatsu period.

Featuring the martial art skills of Sue Shiomi (Sister Streetfighter) as she is on official patrol with Jubei watching over her, making sure that he gets to fight in each episode as well. This is one of the best and most exciting television series to ever hit the airwaves.

A samurai lord has bartered away his newborn son's organs to forty-eight demons in exchange for dominance on the battlefield. Set in the 18th century, the show follows the Shogun Yoshimune, who likes to disguise himself as a low-ranking samurai and go into his capital of Edo to see the life of the common man, as well as to seek out and punish evildoers who would hurt his citizens. He is aided by Magistrate Oo'oka and a vivacious fireman, Tatsugoro, as well as a rotating cast of other recurring characters. Along with Zenigata Heiji and Mito Kōmon, it ranks among the longest-running series in the jidaigeki genre. Like so many other jidaigeki, it falls in the category of kanzen-chōaku, loosely, "rewarding good and punishing evil."

Villain or hero, Taira no Kiyomori changed Japanese history forever 900 years ago. Without ever knowing his real father, Kiyomori was raised as a samurai. Shadow Warriors is a Japanese television jidaigeki show featuring Sonny Chiba that ran for four seasons in the early 1980s. Chiba played different ninja characters in each series. In the first series he played Hattori Hanzō III, in second one he played Tsuge Shinpachi, in the third one he played Tarao Hanzō, in the fourth series and in Bakumatsu Hen, he played Hattori Hanzō XV. In the 2003 direct-to-DVD series Shin Kage no Gundan he played Hattori Hanzō I.

Osome is an ex-actress who lost her parents in a fire when she was 6-years old. She then is separated from her older brother, who goes missing. While she tries to investigate the fire that killed her parents, an officer, Yoshikawa reveals that her father used to be a shogunate spy. Osome decides to become a spy herself under Yoshikawa, to find the man who killed her parents and to seek out her lost brother.

Like “Abarenbo Shogun,” “Mito Komon” and “Toyama no Kinsan,” “Zenigata Heiji” is about an official working undercover to catch criminals. The hero was created by novelist Kodō Nomura in 1931.

During the Tenpo period, the three samurai under the command of the Nanba magistrate were responsible for handling exceptional cases. However, their true identities as shadow assassins were hidden because they were secretly sent to eliminate villains who had escaped punishment by the law.

Sakazaki Iwane is a ronin who spends idle days in Edo. Until a few months ago, he was a promising son and successor to a powerful family in Bungo. He has came back to Edo, where he lived for a while for swordplay training with his two best friends, after a tragedy in the three's home domain—both of the two friends died, one of them killed by Iwane by command of the domain lord's chief retainer. Iwane left his home for Edo, leaving behind his fiancée, a sister of the friend he killed. Eventually, Iwane detects the conspiracy behind the deaths of the two friends and struggles to reform his domain.
