Lately I’ve been watching a lot of shows on Tubi, and coming across Sidetrack Adventures was a pleasant surprise. The shows on there can definitely be hit or miss, but every once in a while you find a diamond in the rough, and this is one of them.
The series explores places that most travel shows completely overlook: abandoned highways, forgotten towns, historic sites, desert mysteries, and all kinds of strange little places you might normally drive right past without realizing there’s a story behind them.
What I really like is how relaxed and genuine the show feels. It doesn’t have the overly produced or sensationalized style that a lot of modern travel shows have. It feels more like you’re tagging along on a road trip and discovering these places at the same time. There’s a surprising amount of history packed into each episode, but it never feels like you’re sitting through a history lesson.
I’ve already found myself looking up a few of the places after watching and adding them to my own list of places I’d like to visit. If you enjoy road trips, unusual history, abandoned places, or the American Southwest, this is definitely worth checking out.
