Overview

The Pale Horse is a mystery thriller TV-show, adapted by Sarah Phelps from Agatha Christie's novel of the same name.

According to the TV adaptation plot, the wealthy antique dealer Mark Easterbrook finds a middle-aged woman died on the street, and a list of a dozen surnames in her shoe, among which was the surname Easterbrook, the only one with the name and a question mark next to it. The biggest problem is that almost all the people on this strange list are already dead, so the danger is probably threatening to Easterbrook. He begins his investigation and comes to unusual conclusions.

The Pale Horse is a stunning and colorful film. The BBC knows how to shoot costumed TV shows, and in this case, the design of interiors, cars, dresses, and the atmosphere of the 60s contributes to creating a memorable picture. Casting is also booming: Rufus Sewell and Kaya Scodelario are perfect for a little arrogant and vicious aristocrats' roles.

The disadvantage is that in the new film adaptation of The Pale Horse, detective elements are pushed into the background; instead, everything connected with witchcraft, the heroes' obsessions, and their dreams is emphasized.

The ending of The Pale Horse might be called odd, but rather just weak.

The BBC made a stunning and atmospheric film adaptation, but only a little of Agatha Christie is left in it.
