The film, released on DVD in 2014 as part of a boxset also containitng Melancholie der Engel (2009) and Reise nach Agatis (2010), deals with the everyday life of a man, Carsten , who works on the set of the 2004 Ulli Lommel film Zombie Nation. At the same time, he is planning to realize his own film, a task he finds extremely difficult.

A convent in Venezuela, 1929: on demand of her parents the young Maria is received as a nun in the order. The strict rules of the convent and the approaches of the other sisters won't be her only problems soon. Because since a fresco is uncovered behind the walls of the chapel, an unholy force seems to find its way into the convent. A lost extreme splatter film from Liechtenstein about a group of teenagers in the forest who stumble upon a party of witches, who sacrifice children, skins traitors alive and eat their innards. The teens try to escape from the witches, and most end up getting killed in the most indiscriminate manner. The police even get involved but are of no use as they are tortured by the witches. The only surviving teen must take matters into his own hands to stop the evil witches. Having gone insane, he later steals his father's gun, goes on a killing spree and then ends his own life.

Shortly after the women take showers and consult a Ouija board they begin experiencing an attrition problem.

Cannibal is based on the true-crime story of Armin Meiwes, the "Rotenburg Cannibal" who posted an online ad searching for someone to volunteer to be mutilated and eaten. Unlikely as it may seem, someone actually replied. The film shows a fictional portrayal of the meeting between the cannibal and his victim/participant, their homosexual relationship, and the eventual mutilation and murder of said victim.
