From civil rights to the anti-war movement to the struggles of workers, folksinger Phil Ochs wrote topical songs that engaged his audiences in the issues of the 1960s and 70s. In this biographical documentary, veteran director Kenneth Bowser shows how Phil's music and his fascinating life story and eventual decline into depression and suicide were intertwined with the history-making events that defined a generation. Even as his contemporaries moved into folk-rock and pop music, Phil followed his own vision, challenging himself and his listeners. Not one to pull punches, Ochs never achieved the commercial success he desperately desired. But his music remains relevant, reaching new audiences in a generation that finds his themes all too familiar.

The story is about a painter named Kang-joon who suffers from facial blindness and a singer-songwriter named Ji-eun who is unable to write lyrics. They both have feelings for each other, so Ji-eun invites Kang-joon to her concert, but Kang-joon unable to recognize her due to his illness. Feeling guilty, Kang-joon cuts off contact with Ji-eun.

The film crew accompanied the artist for several months during concerts, rehearsals and preparations for stage performances. We shot this during the Latin America tour in March 2019. This was also during one of my lowest points emotionally and spiritually, which allowed me to immerse myself in each performance as a form of escapism. The opportunity to travel and play shows in these countries has given me a new appreciation for the fans and people there.
