A victim of rising rents and rapid gentrification, this family owned business was a staple of the working class community that once could afford to live in the area. Chronicling the final days of this beloved bakery, The Last Bread (2013) captures the death of yet another small business in an increasingly homogeneous New York City. La Villita was located on the corner of Grand street and Bedford Ave, the division between the North and the Southside of Williamsburg.

Mount Athos is a peninsula situated in Northeastern Greece, the home of 20 Christian Orthodox monasteries and the largest area on earth where access is reserved to men alone. Female animals are banned too, except for cats, songbirds and insects. Throughout the film women discuss a place they have no access to and their ideas and points of view interconnect and take us all the way to the forbidden land. Since the female duo that directs Avaton is unable to visit the peninsula, they decide to reconstruct Athos by using material filmed anywhere but there, animations and reworked archival material.

With his sudden passing in 2019, the family yielded this material as well as hundreds of other ones from his personal archives so that this film could be finalized.
