Franca

In a small town, Franca, a single mother, tries to hold onto her last remaining child, Juan, while society, the justice system, and her own past seem to conspire to tear him away from her. Left without child support and with her older children in the custody of an unfaithful ex-husband, she survives by stealing food, negotiating with lawyers, and enduring the judgmental gaze of a traditional town—as well as that of her mother, a flirtatious woman who, despite loving her, never fails to point out her mistakes.
