The main event from the Theater at Madison Square Garden in New York City, where they'll fight for Golovkin's WBA middleweight title. Golovkin (27-0, 24 KO) weighed in at 159.6 pounds, with Stevens (25-3, 18 KO) coming in at 159.25 pounds, both just under the 160-pound limit.

Golovkin will defend his middleweight world title against European champion Proksa in the main event Sept. 1 of a "Boxing After Dark" doubleheader on HBO at Turning Stone Casino in Verona, N.Y.

California hosts a huge night of boxing, as welterweight star Raul Curiel (16-0-1) faces late stand-in Jordan Panthen (11-1). The co-main event sees Manny Flores (20-1-1) and Jorge Chavez (14-0-1) contest a rematch, having tied six months prior.

Estrada (43-3, 28 KO) and Chocolatito (51-3, 41 KO) first met way back in 2012, when both were in the 108 lb division. Gonzalez won a decision to retain his WBA title that night, and as he went up the weight classes, Estrada chased behind him, hoping for an eventual rematch. That rematch didn’t come for over eight years, but the two met again in early 2021. In that one, Estrada got a debated split decision nod, retaining the WBA and WBC titles at 115 lbs. Since then, Estrada has given up both belts, though he does have the WBC’s “Franchise” belt.

Sugar Ray Leonard 22-0 (13 KOs) vs. Tony Chiaverini 30-4 (21 KOs) The WBC ranked Leonard third at welterweight and Chiaverini sixth at super welterweight. Leonard made $140,000, and Chiaverini got $61,000. The fight took place at the Caesars Palace Sports Pavilion. Chiaverini requested an 18-foot ring, and the Leonard camp acquiesced. The fight was televised nationally by ABC on Wide World of Sports.

Leonard, the former 139-pound Olympic gold medalist at Montreal and 21-0 as a pro, spent the early rounds solving Viruet's unorthodox style before taking command of the fight. Giving up three inches in reach and three pounds, Leonard used his swarming offense to build a big lead in the 10-round battle.

Roy Jones, Jr. (49-4, 38 KOs) returns to the ring for the first time since dropping a unanimous decision to Antonio Tarver in their trilogy bout, to take on Prince Badi “The Boxing Prince” Ajamu (25-2-1, 14 KOs). The unheralded Prince Badi, apparently holds five fringe title belts in the light hevayweight division, the NABO, WBC Continental Americas, WBC CABOFE, IBC Intercontinental and Pennsylvania State title. Only the NABO light heavyweight title is on the line.

Sugar Ray did the expected, hammering the challenger into defeat in the third round at the Centennial Coliseum (Reno, Nevada) to retain his undisputed would welterweight title, and says he wants to defend his championship three more times before the end of the year.
