Of Monks and Masters: Mystery of the Tomb
A folk story about Zhou Chu appeared in the 430 book A New Account of the Tales of the World and proved to be very popular. Zhou Chu, a young man with supernatural power, is stubborn and rebellious, always doing bad things with good intentions, and is regarded as an outsider by the people of Wu County. One night, in order to save the children outside the city, Zhou Chu killed the white-fronted tiger demon, but unexpectedly, the tiger king (played by Chen Guokun) comes to people of Wu.
A policewoman named Lu Yueyue investigates a stolen national treasure and eventually ends up in a fight with gangsters. At the same time, she is trying to deal with a complicated romantic relationship and family conflict. The film is based on a 1995 television series that made mainland actress-director Xu Jinglei well-known throughout China.
