Yohei Ueshima is a so-called "Hikikomori Survivor", who had been isolated for 11 years since he was 38. He finally escaped from his room three years ago. After the escape, he opened a yakitori restaurant with the help of the local residents, but he could not talk to customers properly and was still in the process of reintegrating into the society. One day he was hired as a part-time teacher at a municipal junior high school. While struggling with various problems around him, he receives support from his withdrawal friends and supporters.

Natsumi's (Hikaru Takahashi) younger sister Haru passes away because a disease. She was just 19. Natsumi loved her younger sister a lot. Meanwhile, Haru was engaged to Togo. Togo comes from a distinguished family, who runs a large company. His parents care about pedigree a lot and suggests to Natsumi that she should now date Togo. However, both Kira and Rei are hiding troubled pasts, and through their relationship they confront their past demons. Masao, a student at Kira and Rei's school, has a connection to Rei's violent past. He enters Kira and Rei's lives to try to force Rei to return to the person he used to be.

Riri Mizukami, a second-year high-school student and member of the softball club, is rescued by Tokyo Uni student Shōtarō Kashiwa and wakes up in a shopping mall, which is not an official evacuation shelter. Riri and her new friends Renren, Shizuku Murahama, Jin Irie, Beast Kashimoto, Sana Mogami, and Ryō Hirasaka have escaped and are living a "special" life.
