Problems arise when Clancy falls in love with society editor Alice Whitney. Clancy is conflicted but then they do strike oil! Concluding that his destiny is to be an honest man, Clancy returns to jail to finish serving his term. Slipping into the crowd of visitors, he dons his prison clothes and resumes work as though nothing had happened.

In happy mood, a rollicking, good-natured party of "Jack Tars" on shore leave are out for a good time, and get themselves well under way in song and general good cheer by visiting the only place of merchandise and refreshment which the little seacoast town affords. Under full sail they are steering their way through the streets of the village, running foul of trees and posts, bowing in humble apology for their seeming rudeness and disturbance. They have apparently lost their "sea legs" and are a little bit unsteady in the joints, but merrily they roll along until they come to a swinging bridge crossing the river. Ambrose (Mack Swain) is a clumsy, aspiring cook who finds himself in over his head when he is hired to work in a busy household or restaurant. Most of the humor stems from Ambrose’s spectacular incompetence in the kitchen. He misinterprets simple instructions, leads a series of messy kitchen disasters, and accidentally destroys various household items while attempting to prepare a meal. The situation typically escalates into a frantic "Keystone-style" chase or a massive physical confrontation involving food, dishes, and outraged employers or customers.

The domestic misadventures of a middle-class couple, Henry and Polly Hannibal. While on vacation at their country bungalow, the couple's relaxation is interrupted by a telegram calling Henry back to his office to handle an important business contract. Finding that the business requires him to travel West to meet a man in person, Henry writes a letter to his wife explaining that he will be gone for some time.

The woman seen earlier looking longingly at the book, model Marjorie Bowen, fights off the advances of Cadwallader Smith, who accompanies a patron. When handsome Sir Derwain Leeds, the prince's aide-de-camp, arrives to see his fiancée Yvette Fernau outfitted, Marjorie exchanges a shy smile with him.
