A classic crime narrative in the backdrop of Delhi merges a dysfunctional, mafia family at war with each other as an undercover officer fights his demons by assisting in their downfall.

The year is 1942 and Advocate M.L. Gupta lives a wealthy lifestyle along with his wife, Maya, in Churchgate, Bombay. One day he travels to Calcutta, and during an air raid by Japanese fighter aircraft, takes shelter with a prostitute, Panna, who drugs and then seduces him. The next day Gupta returns home and decides to forget about this affair. Shortly thereafter he and Maya become parents of a male child and name him Johar.

Shanta agrees to marry a lesser educated man.

When Maya tells him that she has no money to pay for the marriage expenses, he steals cash from his employer, and tells Maya that the money is from Pannalal. And all along telling Maya that he is a close friend of Pannalal, even though he has never met Pannalal, leave alone know him, making one think as to what devious secret Kedarnath is hiding, and what is the reason behind Pannalal's disappearance.
