Oliver, a single father from Berlin, and Johanna, also a single parent but from Bavaria, meet and fall in love while on vacation. The widowed teacher and the divorced mother of two soon no longer want to settle for a long-distance relationship. Without further ado, Oliver packs his things and moves with his daughter Holly to the Bavarian province, where Johanna runs a nursery. However, everyday life in a large family thrown together presents everyone involved with unexpected difficulties. Holly is still grieving for her mother and is estranged from Johanna. Her daughter Lisa, who is the same age, is suffering from school problems that are bigger than her mother suspects. And on top of all the family chaos, the heating in the nursery breaks down, jeopardizing Johanna's livelihood.

Ever since journalist Viktor lost his job at a tabloid, he has been doing a poor job of housekeeping while his wife Alex brings in the money as a vet. His dreary existence comes to an end when Mr. Neumann becomes his new neighbor: Thanks to his journalistic flair, Viktor is quickly able to discover Mr. Neumann's true identity, namely that of motorcycle rocker Rolf Olsen, who has gone into hiding. Viktor wants to get back to work with a scoop story, so he sets off with Rolf in the dark of night. However, this not only jeopardizes the peace of the house, but also that of his sleepy neighbourhood, as the hostile motorcycle gang has picked up Olsen's trail and is marching up with plenty of horsepower.

Los Angeles in 1935. Fritz Lang receives in his hotel apartment the young film amateur Willy, who wants to prepare an interview with him. At a certain moment Lang starts relating how, as an army officer in the First World War, he spent some time in the house of the lawyer Karol Gatnik in a small town in the northeast of Slovenia. When Lang finds out that Gatnik is a passionate film amateur and that he also possesses his own camera, they make a film together. This is probably Lang’s first contact with cinematography. Late at night Lang looks at the photographs in Los Angeles and revives in his spirit the imaginary meeting with his friend Gatnik.
