Thibaut, 40, raises his 7-year-old son, Gabriel, whom he adopted in Africa, alone. Faced with the crisis his son is going through, he decides to return with him to Senegal in search of the biological mother, Yawa, whom he once knew.

Antero and Maria Araújo's story is the shortcut chosen by the director to show life in Maraima, a small town in the state of Ceará, Brazil, including life in community and the military influence. Maria wanders through the state praying to ward off the symbolical presence of the Dragon. That's when she finds Antero, an end-of-the-world prophet, who will join her in her pilgrimage and fight against the mythical being.

In an alternate reality where the decline of nations has given rise to corporatist regimes, any trace of culture or tradition is suppressed by these new leaders to prevent the masses from reclaiming a national identity. However, rebel cells have emerged to counteract this agenda.

Instead of three hours in the car, Mr. Běloušek ends up spending several days on the road with the eccentric Pete. This unwanted trip then changes many things in his view of the world.

The story is set at the beginning of the 20th century in Sicily. Salvatore, a very poor farmer, and a widower, decides to emigrate to the US with all his family, including his old mother. German journalist Philip Winter has a case of writer’s block when trying to write an article about the United States. He decides to return to Germany, and while trying to book a flight, encounters a German woman and her nine year old daughter Alice doing the same. The three become friends (almost out of necessity) and while the mother asks Winter to mind Alice temporarily, it quickly becomes apparent that Alice will be his responsibility for longer than he expected.

It all starts with a bang. The car breaks through the crash barrier and falls off the bridge. The lights go out. After that, he is not able to see anymore. His optic nerve is severed, from now on the young stage-director Jakob is blind. His life will change and nothing will ever be the same. Jakob cannot handle the idea of never being able to see again and screams at the only woman who is able and willing to help him, Lily. A rehabilitation teacher, she helps the blind deal with the darkness. Lily has been living with it since birth, she too is blind.

A scientist discovers that there's gold on the moon. He builds a rocket to fly there, but there's too much rivalry among the crew to have a successful expedition.
