Khadiga lives in a poor neighborhood with her parents. She tries to save up money so she could marry her sweetheart Taha. Taha buys a lottery ticket in hope of winning a lot of money, but it ends up in Khadiga's religious father's hands who throws it away. The ticket gets picked up by the town's fool, who gets lucky and wins, driving the town into chaos.

1945: The last days of the war. In a remote mountain hut, Anton, a deserted SS man, and Hannah, a Jewish woman, meet. From distrust, feelings develop between the two. But the danger is not over yet. For the two, the war is far from over.

The Toth family resides in Northern Hungary. The couple has a daughter and a son, the latter a member of the armed forces. The Gestapo plans to smash the resistance group around Löning. Despite the imminent threat to his life, Löning, together with his wife, organized the passive resistance of the Hamburg workers against the Hitler regime.
