The City Wakes Up Early

In a boarding school in a provincial Siberian town comes a literature teacher, a graduate of a teacher training college. The directness with which the heroine intrudes into the life of the school provokes active resistance from the principal and head teacher. As a result of a series of clashes, the young teacher must leave the boarding school, but her pupils protest, and the directorate is defeated.

In the year of the crisis, four young people attempt to make a home by squatting in an unfinished building – a paradoxical limbo amid the real-estate bubble, where they willingly remain on the fringes of it all.

LEI and WONG clandestinely arrive to Ecuador, on their way to the port city of Guayaquil. From here LEI plans to continue her journey to New York, but CHANG, a bipolar mobster will decide her fate. WONG unwillingly gets entangled in the web of corruption that operates the encroachment of Chinese immigrants. His only objective is to bring his twelve-year-old son from China.

The action takes place during perestroika in one of the old Moscow houses on the Arbat, intended for demolition. The tenants have long been evicted, and only 80-year-old Vera Vasilievna does not want to leave, claiming that Yesenin, Mayakovsky, Bulgakov have been in this house ...
