In 1944 Lye moved to New York City, initially to direct for the documentary newsreel The March of Time. This lively piece uses the traditional Belarusian vycinanka (papercut) style to illustrate eight well-known proverbs through humorous visual vignettes. To complement the folklore-based storytelling, it features music by ethno‑trio Troitsa.
