A Harp in Hock, also known as The Samaritan, is a lost 1927 American silent melodrama film directed by Renaud Hoffman, produced by DeMille Pictures, and distributed by Pathé Exchange. The film starred Rudolph Schildkraut, Junior Coghlan, May Robson, and Bessie Love, and was based on the short story by Evelyn Campbell.

In honor of his return from abroad, Mrs. Worthington invites her cousin, Brian Hartley, to dinner that evening, but forgets to tell him she has moved from her old address. He goes to the old home where he is met at the door by Celia Thayer, a guest of the Holbrooks, who now occupy the residence. None of the family being at home, Ceclia admits him, thinking he has been invited to dinner. When her hostess does not arrive the two have dinner together and become quite infatuated. Later it develops that the house was robbed while Mr. Hartley was there and, of course, he is suspected.

Yuko is a sexy club singer that used to live with her lover. One day, her lover died in a traffic accident. Yuko is overwhelmed with sorrow, but a man who claims to be her lover's brother suddenly appears, causing a confrontation over the remains. In addition, the manager of the apartment where Yuko lives joins in, and it develops into a big commotion.

Lemuel is about to disown his son when Harold Morrowton, Harvey's college roommate, confesses that he forged Harvey's name to the bills because his own father refused to give him spending money, and Harvey adds that because the two were fraternity brothers, he could not betray Harold's trust. Exasperated, Lemuel orders both young men to pay their debts through hard labor in the mill.

Orphan Patience Sparhawk grows up poor until she becomes the ward of the wealthy Miss Tremont. Eventually out of gratitude Patience marries Miss Tremont's nephew, Beverly Peale, out of gratitude only to discover he is a drug user, making their marriage unhappy. When Beverly is found dead from a drug overdose Patience is accused of murder, put on trial and sentenced to die in the electric chair but is saved at the eleventh hour.

Based on the autobiographical novel of the same name. Jack London has struggled with alcoholism most of his life. At age five he was instructed to bring a pail of beer to his father and drank some to prevent it spilling over, getting drunk for the first time. As an adult, he goes through cycles of abstinence only to return to hard drinking.

Palestine, under the rule of Rome. Salome, daughter of Herodias and both niece and stepdaughter of King Herod, becomes infatuated with the prophet John the Baptist, who publicly denounces the depravity of the royal family and proclaims the arrival of a new messiah. (Film presumed lost.)

Civil engineer George Castleman leaves his wife Mildred in the city and goes South to supervise the construction of a railroad. When George tells Zell about his unhappy marriage, she goes to Mildred, hoping to bring about a reconciliation between her and George. Mildred, however, views Zell's relationship with George as the grounds for divorce that she has been trying to find for so long. She and her lawyer follow Zell back to the mountains, but they die in an accident en route. Zell and George then realize that they love each other and make plans for their life together.

After the affair, Keiji presses Yoshiko to marry him, but Yoshiko refuses because she is concerned about the fact that she is older than Keiji. Meanwhile, Yoshiko is selected as the secretary of the new company president, Okawa, and she is invited by Okawa to his villa in Izu. She was told to find a replacement for her private driver, who is currently on vacation, and she recommended Keiji.

Ikeyama is a freelance reportage writer who has raised his daughter single-handedly since his wife died. One day, Ikeyama goes to pick up material for a project brought to him by his new editor, Kondo, "Special Feature on Rumored Beautiful Moms." Ikeyama, who is taken around by Kondo, meets Moe, a beautiful mother, at the last snack bar he decides to go to.

Elinor Chalmers, head saleslady in a department store, loves architect Harry Edmonds. They marry in haste but keep their union secret due to the store’s policy of dismissal of married women. Harry is offered a substantial commission by wealthy businessman Henry Allison for a new home and meets his daughter Alice. The couple still living apart attract new suitors, Alice for Harry and Gardner, the store’s floorwalker for Elinor. Elinor calls at Harry’s office and tells Harry that their baby will soon arrive. Harry ignores her but Gardner is still in love with Elinor, and she realizes she cares for him. Harry is injured in an accident, calls for Elinor and begs forgiveness before he dies. After her mourning period Gardner proposes to Elinor and they marry.

US secret service agent Mr. Grimm is hot on the trail of spy Rosa Morini and her brother Prince Morini who are planning to sell a remote-control wireless bomb apparatus which if it falls into the wrong hands will make its possessor the master of the world's power. Rosa manages to elude capture at first but after the death of her brother sees the error of her ways and a crisis is averted.

A young woman with a shady past goes to the tropics, where she winds up marrying a vicious and brutal pearl trader, then falls in love with another man.

Ruined by Charles Wainwright, George Garrison commits suicide but begs his son Henry to avenge him before expiring. Henry goes West makes a fortune, then returns to New York. Assuming the name of Henry Thompson he becomes Wainwright's protégé and through his machinations is elected mayor of New York. For his support Wainwright wants a franchise binding the city to the financier's railway, but Henry refuses. Attempting to frame Henry on an old murder charge fails when the “victim,” Henry's partner Joe Standing shows up. Finally, Henry confronts Wainwright exposing his evil deeds. Wainwright’s daughter, Dallas, proclaims her love for Henry.
