The Soul Hunter is a short animated film created from over 1,000 of Christine Rebet's drawings on watercolour paper and filmed in 35mm frame by frame. In her first work of film, the young French artist depicts a disturbing soul hunter battling against a kamikaze 'waterworks' boy.

There is something really quite sinister towards the end of this very brief animation. Made up of what looks like hundreds of individually painted watercolours that vary in both their perspective and their definition, this tells us of a group of people whose souls are quite menacingly being sucked from their bodies. Using smears from her paintbrush, creator Christine Rebet crafts quite an effective sense of fear and chaos whilst only one character seems capable of fighting back. It's colourfully imaginative stuff, this, and well worth a few minutes to appreciate some skillful brushwork.
