Set in Tenma, Osaka. Matsukichi (Kento Hayashi) is the son of a samurai. His father is killed because of a grudge and Matsukichi is also in danger. At this time, Wasuke (Masahiko Tsugawa), the owner of the store Ikawa, saves Matsukichi's life. He then begins working at the store.

A story about a masked samurai who takes sides with the good and wipes out the evil. In the late Edo period in Kyoto, samurai are killing each other because of the differences of their beliefs in the Tokugawa shogunate, and commoners are struck with terror. Kurama Tengu, a masked samurai, appears on the scene and helps innocent people from trouble.

Based on the novel of the same name by Jiro Ikushima, this drama series aired on NET TV (now TV Asahi) in 1972 for a total of 26 episodes. Starring the talented actor Kennosuke Yorozuya, who had previously shown his skills in various period films such as "Mabuta no Haha," "Seki no Yatappe," and "Kutsukake Tokijiro: Yoyo ichi-hiki," the show follows the tragic hero and is sure to captivate audiences with its compelling storyline. The 41st NHK Taiga Drama is Toshiie to Matsu.
