Somewhere in North Kolkata, OBHYESH is an unfurling of a 28 years old boy's life, through his struggle to fall asleep during a whole night. The boy seems to be terribly tired and tries hard to get some sleep but various thoughts perpetually come and go keeping him awake where rest is dreamlike and comes to him eventually at dawn.

This experimental film plays like the one man stage shows done by many great comics. Alan Putts has died but who is he? His friends, family, and those who knew him get together to tell his life story from beginning to end. Some have nice things to say some do not. We learn that he was a war hero, factory worker, radio DJ, had a dog name Poo, was addicted to sugar packets, and could whistle out of his... well you'll find out.

This short was produced as a television special for PBS in 1971 and was scheduled to air in February 1972, but it was pulled from the schedule shortly before its airdate as PBS officials reportedly feared it might adversely affect their government funding. The special never aired, but it can now be viewed in The Paley Center for Media and has been widely bootlegged online.
