From Scratch

This ten episode program was based on ten short stories written by Agatha Christie but with wide-ranging themes. Some were romances, some had supernatural themes and a couple were adventures. The common link was that all came from the talented pen of Agatha Christie, all were entertaining and each drama was carefully crafted and well cast with many of Britain's best known actors of the time represented.

At the turn of the century, new roads and railway lines threaten the very existence of the once thriving river boat trade. While trying to mediate in the dispute between the shearers and the riverboat skippers, Brenton Edwards is framed and sentenced to imprisonment in Melbourne. Without Brenton, Delie is faced with a custody battle over her children and the not altogether unwanted attentions of Cyrus James, a charming, but mysterious overseas entrepreneur. Alone she must fight to keep her family and the riverboat "Philadelphia".

The story is about Thongprakai or Thongdee, a girl who went to live in Bangkok in search for a better life. She gets involved with several men, using them as a ladder to become rich and luxurious.

The Men's Room is a British television drama miniseries that was produced by the BBC and originally aired in 1991. The series, which comprises five 50-minute episodes, was adapted by Laura Lamson from Ann Oakley's 1989 novel of the same name and stars Bill Nighy, Harriet Walter, Amanda Redman, Charlotte Cornwell and James Aubrey. A black comedy and period piece set during the Thatcher years, it tells the story of an affair between two academics, previously devoted wife and mother Charity Walton and serial womanizer Mark Carleton. Nighy credits the series as being his breakthrough role.
