Murder in a Small Town is on the lighter side of US styled crime drama's (although its actually a Canadian production) in a good way. This is an inherently likeable series, set in a picturesque, country town with a laid back, rather soulful, central character, of a police chief, who feels more like a writer or poet, than hard nosed crime solving sleuth. Indeed, its how the central and peripheral characters are portrayed that's a big part of this series charm. There's great chemistry between the most of the characters, that breathes warmth and life, into this series. Its not just about the episodic crime stories, there's a lot of human interest surrounding the chief and those who are a part of his working and after hours, life. On the downside, this series can be a little syrupy at times but this only detracts fractionally, from this shows appeal. In summary, reminiscent of easy watching UK crime drama's, such as "MidSomer Murders". If you don't want a lot of heavy mental lifting, preferring something light and approachable, this is definitely worth a look.
