A Ukrainian LGBTQ+ acceptance group is formed by teacher Nadia. A stereotypically homophobic family hesitantly decides to sign up to receive tempting financial supplements. They will need to spend 24 hours with group members Vasyl, beer fan Zenyk, actress Diana and aggressive Denys. Through amusing games, they will learn about homophobia, equality, empathy, gender discrimination, and self-fulfillment. They play games promoting equality and empathy, using humor against prejudice.

Once on This Island is a one-act musical with a book and lyrics by Lynn Ahrens and music by Stephen Flaherty. Based on the 1985 novel My Love, My Love; or, The Peasant Girl by Rosa Guy, it is set in the French Antilles archipelago in the Caribbean Sea. A group of wealthy American Jewish businessmen have been captured by the SS and are told that they are to be traded to the American army for several SS officers. However, these hostages are being required to pay bribes for their "transportation costs." In order to ensure that the businessmen will be more cooperative in paying up, a beautiful female singer is placed in their midst as a bargaining chip. The group of hostages are then placed on a train which is supposed to take them to the ship that will deliver them to freedom, but a series of "mishaps" delays their escape.

When a son and mother move to Seattle in hopes for a better life, the mother meets a seemingly polite man. Things go south when the man turns out to be abusive, endangering their lives. As the mother struggles to maintain hope in an impossible situation, the son has plans to escape.
