Striking Land

A cinematic portrait of farmer and writer Wendell Berry. Through his eyes, we see both the changing landscapes of rural America in the era of industrial agriculture and the redemptive beauty in taking the unworn path.

Former governor Arthur A. Link has become virtually a mythic figure in the North Dakota consciousness. Art Link was governor of North Dakota during the first great energy crisis in the 1970s. On October 11, 1973, Governor Link delivered what is widely regarded as North Dakota's "Gettysburg address". His credo, written in the margins of his prepared speech moments before he was introduced, is known by its opening phrase: "When the landscape is quiet again." This is the story of that man, that speech, and the landscape that inspired it.

The film captures the activities of the inhabitants in the countryside, in southern Chile, and the CORA (Corporation for Agrarian Reform). Although the action was filmed in four days and four nights in 1971, the movie was only finished in France in 1973, after the military coup.

Shot over a 6-month period by the owners, Wendy and Ler, this intimate documentary is an unfettered access into the lives of the flmmakers, exposing their deepest vulnerabilities in face of this crisis, which had crushed their fnances and strained their relationship. Through their personal story, Wendy and Ler hope to create more awareness for dogs with cancer in Singapore and around the world.

Filmed over 10 years in 30 cities, the film shows the interactive works on a large scale by the artist Rafael Lozano-Hemmer. The work of the Mexican creator has been exposed, among other places, in Trafalgar Square in London, the Park Avenue tunnel in New York and the border between El Paso and Ciudad Juarez.

Originally from New Mexico, LaForge exhibits a signature style that is instantly recognizable, yet perpetually reinvented. His bespoke painted clothing, which claimed the attention and subsequent partnership of famed designer Patricia Field, has become a specialized luxury, sought after by celebrities such as Debbie Harry, Beyoncé, and Nicki Minaj. Layered with childhood fantasy and adult themes, classical inspiration and modern social commentary, his pieces are woven together using paint, found objects, fabric, and anything else that strikes his fancy.

Already 20 years ago it organized protests against Putin's criminal activities. The intergenerational group, headed by Piotr Lisiewicz, permanently argued with the courts, the police and the media. The documentary is a fast-flowing story of the erstwhile rebels, who are now active on the right side of the political scene.
