While on their way to celebrate the father's promotion, the family's car gets hit by a drunk driver who's also a powerful mayor. The father loses his wife and son in the accident and will stop at nothing to bring this mayor to justice for killing his family.

Overall, the movie handles this difficult subject with an elegant style and feeling, without having the adult-child relationship overwhelm the viewer and thus allowing the movie to be seen as just a wartime relationship between two people that marks an important time in a young boy’s life.
