Atonement

A mathematical genius discovers a link between numbers and reality, and thus believes he can predict the future.

Set in the years before and during World War I, this epic tale tells the story of a rich Argentine family, one of its two descending branches being half of French heritage, the other being half German. Following the death of the family patriarch, the man's two daughters and their families resettle to France and Germany, respectively. In time the Great War breaks out, putting members of the family on opposing sides.

With few options, newly pardoned convict Leila agrees to work as an assistant to a blind pastor. Father Jacob spends his days answering the letters of the needy, which Leila finds pointless. But when the letters stop, the pastor is devastated and Leila finds herself cast in a new role.

Lacking a traditional plot, the non-linear story follows the path of emotions and sensations. Based on actual events the film shows five acts – Miracle, Atonement, Regret, Prayer, Forgiveness – that might help us overcome the fear of death…

At first glance, Grandma Mui and Uncle Cheung look just like another ordinary elderly couple loitering outside a school wall. The film tells the story of two old friends, Ahmet and Kemal, who work together to solve a murder. Ahmet, nicknamed "Baba," makes a living as an accountant. His son Ali, who works as a laborer at the same factory, is a union member. The factory manager pressures Ahmet to convince his son to leave the union. During a strike that breaks out at the factory, Ali is killed. Ahmet seeks help from Kemal, a businessman and his army buddy, to find his son's killer. Throughout this process, both Kemal and Ahmet begin to question their own lives.
