Just before Christmas, department store clerk Steve Mason meets big spending customer Connie Ennis, who's actually a comparison shopper sent by another store. Steve lets her go, which gets him fired. They spend the afternoon together, which doesn't sit well with Connie's steady suitor, Carl, when he finds out, but delights her young son Timmy, who quickly takes to Steve.

A young couple, Sandrine and Peter, discuss the pros and cons of marriage during their anniversary dinner in a cafe while others look on. An argument that might change their future and their perception of love and their meaning of relationship.

When yet another anniversary passes without a marriage proposal from her boyfriend, Anna decides to take action. When her reporting results in the arrest of the young widow, 'Timmy' continues to dig, since she isn't quite convinced that the facts she reported cover all the angles.
