Following the attack on Pearl Harbor, the extended Henry and Jastrow families navigate the personal, social and political impacts of World War II, including the Holocaust, the Battle of the Bulge, and the Pacific theater.

The series partly follows Ausonius during the execution of the crime, and partly the police's detective work. Ailsa Orr and Michael Mosley, who made also Supervolcano, are the executive producers for BBC, while Jack E. Smith is the executive producer for Discovery Channel. The miniseries was released on DVD in the United Kingdom on 2 July 2007.
