Centering around the lives of pre-teen Hispanic twins named Maya and Miguel Santos and their friends, the program is aimed at promoting multiculturalism and education in general. It is geared to the 5-9 age range. Part of the dialogue in each episode in the English version is in Spanish but only individual words or phrases which are explained in English.

Long ago, all humans lived beneath the sea. However, some people preferred the surface and abandoned living underwater permanently. Over time, the rift between the denizens of the sea and of the surface widened, although contact between the two peoples still existed. This show follows the story of Hikari Sakishima and Manaka Mukaido, along with their childhood friends Chisaki Hiradaira and Kaname Isaki, who are forced to leave the sea and attend a school on the surface. There, the group also meets Tsumugu Kihara, a fellow student and fisherman who loves the sea. Hikari and his friends' lives are bound to change as they have to deal with the deep-seated hatred and discrimination between the people of sea and of the surface, the storms in their personal lives, as well as an impending tempest which may spell doom for all who dwell on the surface.

Shōkōjo Seira is a 2009 Japanese drama television series based on the children's novel A Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett. Mirai Shida stars as Seira, the daughter of a rich boss of a mining company. Due to her father's sudden death in a mining accident, Seira has overcomes many ordeals at the Millenius Seminary boarding school because she is unable to pay her school fees. Shōkōjo Seira aired on Saturdays from 7:56pm on the Tokyo Broadcasting System between 17 October 2009 and 19 December 2009.
