The events take place before and a day after “New Year’s Eve” in a hotel in the north-west of Tunisia, which the director recalls from his memory from an incident he lived when he was young.

The story revolves around the people of Sète, France. Their lives are punctuated by family rivalries, romance and scenes from daily life, but also by plots involving police investigations, secrets and betrayals.

Its main features are two pyrotechnic displays, the 9pm Family Fireworks and the Midnight Fireworks, both of which are televised nationally with the latter also televised around the world.
