What Is War?

A Past Development project for Sam Register Warner Brothers Animation.

Set in prehistoric times, this short film was created for the Edison Company by Willis H. O'Brien, a pioneer of American stop-motion animation.

Two brothers, who are both hunters and live with their mother, go to the mountains to set traps for deer. Suddenly, a demon grabs the younger brother. The older brother shoots an arrow, severing the demon's arm, which they plan to take home. But they make a grisly discovery on the journey home.

The imagined perpetrator in a famously unsolved true-crime case, “Who Put Bella Down the Wych Elm”, is confronted about his past by an unearthly Bison in this Stop-Motion animated short film.

One of the First Cindy Sherman's super-8 film,"Doll Clothes" (officially, the film is "Untitled") has not been viewed since 1975, the year it was made. It comically crosses Duchamp's Nude Descending a Staircase with animated paper dolls in a sly, funny and clever precursor to the concerns that became signature elements in Sherman's remarkable body of photographic work.

This puppet film is a visually rich interpretation of the national hero Holger Danske. The story begins with Holger's birth and baptism in pagan Denmark around the year 800. The little boy is kidnapped by the Franks, who, led by Charlemagne, are trying to unite the many peoples of Europe into one empire, under one faith. The film follows the open and charming Holger's encounter with war and love, foreign cultures and beliefs, thereby touching on some universal and eternally valid themes.
