In a world populated by powerful gods and warring mortals, two enchanted beings meet in a peace-filled realm: They are Su Mo, a prince of sea gods, and Bai Ying, a princess and descendant of a mighty sword deity. Devil Beside You is a 2005 Taiwanese drama starring Mike He, Rainie Yang and Kingone Wang. It is based on Japanese manga Akuma de Sourou, The Devil Does Exist, written by Mitsuba Takanashi. It was produced by Comic Ritz International Production with Chai Zhi Ping as producer and directed by Lin He Long. The series was first broadcast in Taiwan on free-to-air China Television from 26 June to 18 September 2005 and cable TV Eastern Television for 20 episodes.

The story revolves around a highschool boy named Niwa Makoto. He lives with his aunt's family since his parents are away on business. It is there where he meets his mysterious cousin of the same age Touwa Erio — who happens to tie a futon mattress around her upper body and is a self-proclaimed alien. Her staple food is pizza. Erio had been missing for half a year and was found floating in the sea. She doesn't remember anything about what happened during that period of time, but she began to think that it was the act of an alien and wanders the neighbourhood wrapped in the futon.

The anime follows Machi, a middle school student who serves as a shrine maiden at a Shinto shrine and takes care of a bear, who lives on mountain in Japan's northern Tohoku region. The bear, Natsu, has the ability to talk and is Machi's guardian. When Machi explains to Natsu that she will attend a school in the city, he gives Machi a set of trials that she must pass in order to be able to survive city life.
