Jarhead is a film about a US Marine Anthony Swofford’s experience in the Gulf War. After putting up with an arduous boot camp, Swofford and his unit are sent to the Persian Gulf where they are eager to fight, but are forced to stay back from the action. Swofford struggles with the possibility of his girlfriend cheating on him, and as his mental state deteriorates, his desire to kill increases.

Year 1703: the tyrannical madness of King Louis XIV of France has taken hold. The Musketeers hatch a plan to eliminate him and free his twin brother Philip, who is imprisoned on the island of Saint-Marguerite, but before they can act, he is executed. The Musketeers subsequently manage to recover Philip's body and, together with some loyalists to the monarchy, capture Louis. Louis XIV, in chains, is now victim of a ritual of blood and power.

　　Deputy Chief Cui Daqing of the Fengtai Town Police Station in Beijing's Fengtai District begins his busy day. Leading officers Huang and Su Ming, among others, he sets out to apprehend a bicycle theft gang. Just then, Cui's wife calls, saying their son Didi had fallen seriously ill. With no time for family matters, Cui orders the driver to proceed. But resident Mr. Zhao, caught up in his own personal dispute, refuses to let the car pass.

When Belgian tech visionaries Luc and Geert learn that their fraud will hit the papers in less than 24 hours, they realise their company and their status will evaporate. With jail time becoming inevitable, they each go on their separate paths of redemption. King Sukjong assigns Jang Ok-nan, a court lady, as a concubine overnight. Jang plots to drive the current Queen into exile.

King Sukjong exalts a greedy concubine to the status of Bin, which is next to that of the Queen. The new Bin, who is now called Jang Hui-bin, drives out the Queen through a coup and takes her place. But thanks to loyal court officials, the King finds out what has been going on. He demotes Jang to Bin again and reinstates his Queen. Jang, now vindictive, conspires with her mother to kill the queen and reclaim her place. But the conspiracy is brought to light, and Jang is executed.

Admiral Lee Sun-shin designs and builds the 'Turtle Ships' in preparation of the Japanese invasion during the Injin War. He is promoted after his victories, but due to his expanding influence and increased popularity in military circles, the king comes to fear him and has him imprisoned. A year later, the Japanese navy attempts another invasion and the king is required to enter the prison and beg the admiral's assistance.

Based on four of the six short stories compiled in Murakami Haruki's anthology, After the Quake explores the complex aftermath of Japan’s earthquakes and other global crises. (Movie version of the TV drama).
